    Faulkner makes bold experimentation with the forms of telling in his novel The Sound and the Fury. In this tourdeforce, form is obviously at the service of its function. Employing multiple points of view, stream of consciousness or interior monologue, the authors intention is to render, more effectively, the melancholic, ambivalent or furious inner world of the author and his fictional characters. The inner world that the novel needs to represent constitutes the major content of the literary work, but the inner world should also be connected with greater social and historical reality.
